Zombies are coming to get you, Edmonton!

Zombie Apocalypse at the Alberta Legislature GroundsIn 2006 a strange site was seen upon the streets of our city as Whyte Ave encountered the precursor to the Zombie Apocalypse - sure, there were only a few dozen that first April, but that number has steadily grown. Last October there were over 400 zombies roaming the streets!

This year prepare for Whyte to be infected once again! Friday night, October 7th, the River City Zombie Committee once again leads the undead down Whyte, across the High Level bridge, to the Alberta Legislature grounds, and eventually to Churchill Square.

Zombies of all ages participateDo you have the guts to check out their Facebook event page and become undead?

As an added bonus, on Saturday night you can also get zombified for the First Annual Zombie Prom and BBQ

DEDfest ‘09 - The First Wave of Films!

Those sickly, psychotic cinephiles over at DEDfest have announced the start of the 2009 lineup:

Our first wave of films for DEDfest 2009 is now official! We’ve got a little John Hughes meets Takashi Miike with the insane splatterfest Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl, Lesbian Vampire Killers (enough said!), a nasty little flick called Neighbor that made this year’s Fantasia crowd scream their asses off, a retro screening of the punk rock zombie classic Return of the Living Dead, and we’ve got an ambitious, amazing animated version of Romero’s classic – Night of the Living Dead: Reanimated.

Stay tuned to DEDfest’s films page for all the latest news.

Zombie Luau!! Presented by DEDfest: Hellberta’s Horror Festival

ZOMBIE LUAU feat. Lucio Fulci’s ZOMBIE

June 13 at Metro Cinema

Put on your best grue, gore and Hawaiian shirt for our screening of Italian director Lucio Fulci’s eye-popping, gut-munching masterpiece! Zombie’s plot is simple – the undead run amok – but its tropical locale, inventive low budget makeup, eerie score, and ample gore have made it an exploitation classic. It also features one of the most infamous, ballsy scenes in movie history: ZOMBIE vs. SHARK!

Also, we’ve got vintage trailers, undead hula dancing contests, limbo competitions, prizes for best costume, and more!

Trivia: Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez screened a double bill of “Zombie” and the Italian giallo “Torso” to the cast of “Grindhouse” before production.
